long awaited

You are thinking that you have been waiting FOREVER for me to blog again.

Well, I felt like I waited FOREVER to find someone who would love me and marry me.

So, we are even.

and that is what life is all about fair and even right?  (I live with a 5 and 7 year old. . . . and they think that is what it is all about. . . . and apparently, I am NEVER fair to them because I make them do chores and homework and get dressed in the morning and clearly I am very, very unfair).

I have a new goal to blog again.
I have a lot of new goals.
and I am unsure how many of them are actually realistic and attainable so don't get too excited.

It's been almost three months since my life changed.
dramatically.

It's taken me that long (and then some) to get my feet planted on the ground.

It didn't actually take me that long to plant flowers.  I guess we see where my priorities are.

And in case you were wondering my flowers look pretty fantastic and I look at them every morning and remind myself that it is most likely snowing in Utah and my flowers wouldn't look so amazing.

I'm clearly impressed with myself.
I have to be.
Because I am not sure positive that Eric really isn't as enamored by the flowers as me.
The girls are and love it when they grow and bloom.

I also made some really great curtains for the living room.
I'm thinking of going into business so if you would like any curtains. . . . at the rate I am moving on my projects lately I can have them to you in about 6.7 years when chevron curtains are way out of style (maybe they already are).

But back to reality.

Natalie is still throwing tantrums.
Less often, but still.
and she "lets me" get up with her EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.
and rub her back.
Eric doesn't hear her doesn't get out of bed when she does.
Lucky for him.

Lauren sleeps through it too,
but still manages to wake up super early EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING.
ready to play the i-pad.
which doesn't actually get to be played until afterschool.
Somehow that causes tears EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING.
Like it is a surprise on day 76 of me being here that I won't let her play it in the morning before school.
and those 30 minutes of I-pad time that they do get after school is never quite long enough.
So there is usually a meltdown of some sort EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

Sometimes A lot of times it is me that has the meltdown.

However

We have great times too.

(Remember those curtains and the flowers mentioned up above. . . . . . that was a great time)

We play at the park.

And go to the Science Museum.
And make cookies.
And read lots of books.
And do jobs together.
And go to gymnastics
and swimming lessons
and all over town.
And play with cousins.
And work on art projects.
And exercise "together".

And walk to and from school each day.
And have FHE (that isn't always great but I'm trying to be optimistic)
And run errands.
And dance to crazy music
And play games (over and over and over)
And learn and grow.

And sometimes we see Eric when he isn't doing taxes or sleeping.

And that my friends, pretty much sums it up.

I am adjusting
and happy
and learning.
It might take me forever to understand my role.
Thankfully he's mine for that long.

Sounds like you are doing great. You are already a better mom than me...Rees wakes up way to early everyday and what do we do?...turn on the kids netflix and go back to bed (well, sometimes I get up and exercise, but he still watches his shows) Turns out, sleep is needed for me to function or I am angry. I am proud of you for sticking to your guns though. I love hearing about your day and all the fun things you are doing with your new life as a mom. :)

I love reading your mom experiences. How lucky those girls are to have such an amazing, consistent mom.

Consistency (aka, sticking to your guns) is necessary, as was mentioned. Keep at it. They will try to wear you down (aka tantrums) but you can do it!

When you have a baby, you get to grow with them. The hard stuff, like tantrums, comes later after you know your child inside and out. One minute you were Miss Ostler, school teacher, responsible for only your self and the next, Sister Bell, wife and mother, responsible for a whole family. It is a tough gig. Don't get down on yourself that it is taking some time to get the hang of things. You are doing a great job! Just make sure you take care of you, too!

You know it's called Family Home Screaming, not Family Home Evening, right? We're all in the same boat, no matter how much 'practice' we've had at 'parenting'. And, Hawaii is on the horizon, isn't it?

It's kind of a shock, isn't it? Maybe those tantrums will turn into every-other-day-fests sometime soon :) Just remember that in blended families (yes, I looked up the stats) the "adjustment period" takes about two years-- for reals! I wouldn't freak out that it's not all peachy yet. Give yourself some time, keep something of your single self in your life (take some "me time"), and enjoy dancing to crazy music any chance you get. (( Hugs ))

I think you are doing fabulous! If they thought you were "fair" then you wouldn't be doing your job teaching them to be great people - because that's your goal! I look at the list of FUN things you are doing and feel inadequate, so you've got FUN down too! And FHE ... yeah, I don't want to rain on your optimism, but don't feel bad that it isn't all roses (it's mostly thorns with a few "Sunbeam" and "Popcorn" songs thrown in). In 25 years, they'll reminisce (probably in a talk) about the amazing FHEs you had, and you'll just chuckle and be glad the Spirit you prayed for every single Monday night got through all the crazy that comes with family! That's what I'm hoping for, anyway! So, long story short ... You're amazing! As everyone always says, "Enjoy the Moment" (and when you figure out how to do that, let me know, mmkay?) and know you're awesome!

Oh Amber, I am totally crying reading this, I am SOOO happy for you! I love how much you're doing and Eric could not possibly have found a more perfect girl!! I think you're wonderful and you're doing such a good job! I think I'm gonna work on the crazy dancing part. :) I love you Amber, thank you for the blog post! I'm gonna work on mine tomorrow...

Love, love LOVE your wedding pictures! You look gorgeous and what a beautiful family you have! I love that you are realistic and your days sound similar to many I've had that seem, like groundhog day to replay over and over and over. Good for you for making curtains and throwing in all the fun excursions! When tantrums and no sleep start to get to me, I try to remember what my mom always said when things weren't "perfect" - this too shall pass (and most of the time it does!). Other times, I remember a fortune cookie (I know, how tacky, right?) that sums up the rough moments for me - "it's a small price to pay for living a dream." I"m so glad that you are living your dream, I just wish I was closer so we could go on play dates and museum trips and roll our eyes at tantrums together. Those girls sure are blessed to have you as a mom - I'm so happy you and Eric finally get to be together!
