What do you Remember?

Memory Lane…I got this from a friend’s blog. I thought it would be fun! I hope you will play along. Here are the directions:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses.

Apron Project 1/2 way done. . . .

So, on the 24th of July, Kristin and I started making these aprons for her boys, and my plan was to bring some to the boys when I came out to Ohio. I didn't quite get them finished, but with a little bit of help I was able to finish them. Jimmy helped with the scissors and then wore the apron when it was finished.

Day #1 Ohio Summer Fun

Yesterday afternoon I arrived (after a not great flight) in Ohio to visit my brother Jim, his wife Megan and their cute little family. I think some time away is exactly what I have needed. It has been a laugh a minute with my nephews. . . Jimmy, Ben and Luke! Today we went to the park, took silly pictures, rode bikes and I am sure that there are lots more adventures yet to come!

Ben and Jimmy love taking pictures with the camera on my computer. . . . it makes normal faces look silly!

HIking

Anna and I took a nice hike this morning up to "big springs" in Pleasant Grove through Kiwanis Park. It made me miss my mom, since she loves this hike/walk, but I think that they will be home in around a month and hopefully we will still have plenty of hiking time left. It is true that there is no place like home, and even the mountains by my home feel like home!

One Persons Junk. . . . Another Persons Treasure?

So, yesterday as I was cleaning my house I decided to take a pile of trash to the dumpster. Going to the dumpster is my LEAST favorite activity in the world, so I put it off until I can no longer avoid it. Anyway, when I went to throw away my disgusting garbage and empty boxes from core academy I found. . . . .This headboard and foot-board. So, I went back in my house, called Kristin and told her about it. We decided that if it was still at the dumpster when she came over later that night we would go look at it. I should have taken pictures of us at the dumpster. It was hilarious. The items weren't actually "in" the dumpster, just off to the side (I hope someone wasn't keeping them safe there and we stole them). I felt like a total idiot taking someone else's junk, but I don't have a headboard and have been wanting one for a while now. I think it has some serious potential!

Here is where I need your help?! What would you do to "fix up" this beauty. I have included a picture of the foot-board by my bed so you can have an idea of what my room looks like. I am up to painting, sanding, and doing anything else to turn this into my own. Also, any ideas on how to actually connect the headboard and foot-board together? The fix it guys at Home Depot might be my new best friends if I ever want to actually do this project!

Core Academy

Yesterday was my last day of teaching Core Academy! Hooray! It has been a great summer job, and I have really enjoyed being able to travel throughout the state of Utah and meet fabulous teachers from Logan to St. George and everywhere in-between. I have decided that working 2 or 3 days a week is the way to go. Although I can't believe that school starts in less than a month I am ready for the next new challenge. . . . the new challenge will involve somewhere between 20-25 six year olds who don't know how to button their own pants, write their own names, and are crying for about 1/2 the day (at least for the first week of school). I am excited to see their new little faces and know that by next May I will be sad to say goodbye to them....and hopefully they will have learned how to write their own names and button their own pants, but I can't really expect the crying to have stopped -- remember they are just six!

"Get your mind off of. . ."

So, you know those times when your mind goes at like a million miles an hour. . . well, mine is doing that, and really it is turning in non-healthy circles! This is a common problem for me. I am trying to "not think" (scary, I know) about the current situation that has my mind reeling, but it is difficult. So, I have been trying to come up with activities to keep me distracted. However, inevitability, something reminds me of the predicament that I am in and I am right back inside my head analyzing, wondering and mulling! It is the craziest of things that get me going, like a food I see at the grocery store, a song on the radio, vaccuming my living room floor, trying to pick an outfit to wear, driving down certain roads etc. . . See, now you do think I am crazy! Anyway, the whole point of this post is to say: "How do you get your mind off of. . . . " I kind of feel like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, only I would say: "If I only had a brain that shut down!"

Independence

This is kind of random, but I have been thinking a lot about "being independent" lately. It seems to me like there is this really fine line between being to independent and not independent enough. Oddly enough over the past 5 years or so, I think I have been both time and time again. I am dependent on my family, but want to be independent and do my own thing. I am independent in owning my own home and having a job, but really when I am all alone in these things I wish there was someone who depended on me. That is the nice thing about work, is you can be dependable, reliable and people like it. They depend on you to be independent and do your own thing (within parameters of course). So, summer is always a difficult transition for me, to not really have anyone depending on me for anything, so then, I think I get more dependent!? weird?!

Anyway, there are my thoughts, for what they are worth! Are you independent or dependent or both?!

Summer Fun

I have been kind of missing in action. . . . I have no good excuse, except that I have been working a lot traveling the state of Utah meeting teachers from all over the place and doing lots of fun things! I have been from St. George to Tremonton to Vernal since June and I am ready to just stick around home for a while. Aside from just working I have been to Lake Powell, on some good hikes and spent a lot of time outdoors!!

Making it interesting at Cascade Springs
I kind of conquered my fear of heights. . . well, not totally, but
we hiked Goblers Knob and slid down the snow on the back.
Mom, you would love this hike!
