One Persons Junk. . . . Another Persons Treasure?

So, yesterday as I was cleaning my house I decided to take a pile of trash to the dumpster. Going to the dumpster is my LEAST favorite activity in the world, so I put it off until I can no longer avoid it. Anyway, when I went to throw away my disgusting garbage and empty boxes from core academy I found. . . . .This headboard and foot-board. So, I went back in my house, called Kristin and told her about it. We decided that if it was still at the dumpster when she came over later that night we would go look at it. I should have taken pictures of us at the dumpster. It was hilarious. The items weren't actually "in" the dumpster, just off to the side (I hope someone wasn't keeping them safe there and we stole them). I felt like a total idiot taking someone else's junk, but I don't have a headboard and have been wanting one for a while now. I think it has some serious potential!

Here is where I need your help?! What would you do to "fix up" this beauty. I have included a picture of the foot-board by my bed so you can have an idea of what my room looks like. I am up to painting, sanding, and doing anything else to turn this into my own. Also, any ideas on how to actually connect the headboard and foot-board together? The fix it guys at Home Depot might be my new best friends if I ever want to actually do this project!

WOW! That's awesome! I am all for black furniture lately, so I'd paint the wood parts black, and may be keep the other parts silver. Tyler and I have found and used this awesome spray paint that you don't have to sand prior!! It's great. We just got it at good ol walmart in the paint section.. it's good on anything, even plastics!!! As far as putting the frame onto your bed... hmmm. that's a good question! Does it not fit onto your bed frame? Good luck with that part. :) What a treasure!!!

WOW Amber what a find! I would definitely paint it black or parts of it black. Mark just refinished my kitchen table and did the black legs and natural wood top look. It looks really cool. You could try something like that or just paint the whole thing black. If you need some help Mark has a paint gun and I'm sure he would be willing to help so you don't have to spend hours and hours on this project. Whatever you decide to do to it post some pictures, I would love to see how it turns out.

Is that metal??? Does it have a design of some kind?? I love the black and Cherry wood look. Maybe spray paint the metal and then sand and stain the wood cherry. Looks like a way fun project...for practically FREE!

we have totally done the exact same thing!! except, we went at midnight to avoid too much "exposure". we painted the headboard, took off the "ugly" pieces and wa-la--- we are still using it. congrats on a great find.
